췌장암

흡연은 췌장암의 1군 발암 요인으로, 많은 연구에서 흡연이 췌장암 위험을 높인다는 것이 증명되었습니다. 흡연자는 비흡연자에 비해 췌장암 위험이 1.7배 가량 높습니다.

담배제품과 배출물의 발암물질은 혈액을 통해 전신에 전달되어 췌장에도 영향을 미치며, 조직의 섬유화와 염증반응을 유도하며, 특히, 니코틴이 췌장액 분비세포를 자극하는 것으로 알려져 있습니다.

국내 자료에 따르면, 우리나라에서의 흡연자는 비흡연자에 비해 췌장암 발생 위험이 70% 가량 높으며, 흡연량(갑년)이 많을수록 위험은 더욱 증가하였습니다.

흡연은 췌장암 발생에 직접적인 영향을 미치지만, 더불어 췌장암의 다른 위험요인들과도 연관되어 간접적인 영향도 미칩니다. 흡연은 만성췌장염의 위험을 높이고, 췌장 석회화에 영향을 미칩니다. 또한 흡연은 당뇨의 위험을 높이기도 합니다.

흡연자의 췌장암 치료 예후 역시 비흡연자에 비해 나쁩니다. 흡연자는 비흡연자에 비해 생존이 낮고, 특히 흡연량이 많을수록 더욱 낮습니다.

금연 기간이 10년 이상 경과하면 췌장암 위험이 비흡연자 수준으로 낮아집니다.
